Transformers 3 keeps box office competition at bay

_*Transformers: Dark Of The Moon*_ *has become 2011’s biggest
money-spinner, having now accrued a massive US gross of $261m.*

In its second week on release, the Michael Bay blockbuster took a
further $47m Stateside, easily obliterating the competition.

What do those figures mean for us? Well, a _Transformers 4_ is
becoming a more and more likely proposition, with _T3_ proving the
franchise’s enduring popularity (with audiences that is, critics
still don’t get it).

Rumours this week had Jason Statham pegged as a possible new leading
man for the series – in light of these new box office figures,
expect more rumours of that ilk to spread like wildfire over the
internet.

For those not interested in giant robots smashing each other to
pieces, _Horrible Bosses_ debuted this week in second place with $28m,
while _Zookeeper_ entered just behind in third with $21m.

Here’s how the top ten looked as a whole…

1 _Transformers 3_ $47,000,000 $261
2 _Horrible Bosses_ $28,100,000 $28.1
3 _Zookeeper_ $21,000,000 $21
4 _Cars 2_ $15,209,000 $148.8
5 _Bad Teacher_ $9,000,000 $78.7
6 _Larry Crowne_ $6,264,000 $26.5
7 _Super 8_ $4,825,000 $118
8 _Monte Carlo_ $3,800,000 $16.1
9 _Green lantern_ $3,125,000 $109.7
10 _Mr. Popper’s Penguins_ $2,850,000 $57.7
